Mona Fraiman is a charismatic Argentinean singer and painter who will be gracing the Teal Art Gallery with her vocal and painting talents. Mona embodies a cubist style with her personal additions of texture. Her pieces range from New Orleans Jazz Fest memories to still-lifes at home. Come meet her and learn about her art.

Paul Morris is one of the foremost sculptural ceramicists and has been featured in industry related magazines. You can see why! His structure is something most ceramicists would die for and his glazes are out of this world. His finishes range from planned almost tribal accuracy to spontaneous dripping.

Definitely a show you will not want to miss. The show runs from August 7th through September 6th.

Since the beginning of the human race, we (humans) have been fascinated with our own image. The earliest art ever found is that of people on cave walls. Thousands of years later the human figure is still a major focus in art. The show, ‘Body Language,’ exemplifies a variety of figure art. In this show, we will be able to see what other people find beautiful or interesting whilst all looking principally at the same thing – the human figure.

Images of people remain one of the most interesting and recognizable subjects in art. One reason is that they are universal. Everyone can recognize a human being in art or even by happenstance in the clouds, rock formations, cookie dough and ink blots. Because everyone is very familiar with the human form, it is important that artists are accurate in their representations. Even if people can’t say what is wrong with an inaccurate drawing, they can tell it is a little funny. Artists can use this phenomenon to their advantage and emphasize one thing or downplay another. This manipulation of the figure and our own inherent understanding of body language makes figure art uniquely fascinating.

Figure art is a permanent record of what one artist wants to portray at a certain time regardless of nationality or language. Diversity, ideals, illness, and life are some of the major themes of this show. The artists are as varied as the art, each coming from a different background and generation with art ranging from representational ceramics to abstract charcoal and painting. They create works that transcend barriers found within society.

See the exhibitions page for more information and featured artists.
